Bear in mind the area is a castle domain. Expect majestic avenues linking up curiosities like Money Mound, the Fort, Hussar’s Mound, etc) in a wooded area. These trails are definitely outsiders in the park’s trails. In order to see the many POI you will have to wander slightly off trail. My hike was just over 6.2mi (or just under 10km).
The area is also known as Little Versailles. Do you also wonder what a gloriette is (and more of its secrets), why a mound is called after the Hussars or perhaps more details on the Money Mound, well, know that the region is both situated in Belgium and the Netherlands. The domain is older than the birth of Belgium. Back when we, Belgians, were simply Southern Netherlands. Nowadays the domain is in Putte, Stabroek (BE) and Putte, Woensdrecht (NL). Oh no, there is no border patrol or fences or walls. And no passport needed to cross borders. On the trails you will discover boundary posts.
For those interested, there is a brasserie/restaurant with outdoor seating terrace open from 10am daily (except Wednesdays): brasserie/restaurant/terras ‘t Koetshuis (only in Dutch).
